A sponsored screening series or one-time event means that neither the host nor the audience pays to show or attend the film. Either the filmmakers are covering the cost, or they have a sponsor that is paying them separately to enable free events.

FAQ

Do I need a Kinema subscription?

Yes. An active Kinema subscription is required to access both free and paid viewings.

What is the workflow?

If all your events are free, then we will set your rate card to $0 and bill you monthly or quarterly, based on the above, depending on volume. If only select events are free, we provide you with a discount code to give to hosts you want to allow a free event.

How does billing work?

Billing is monthly or quarterly, depending on the volume of usage. Your card on file will be charged through Stripe, based on your actual usage.

Can I set a billing cap?

  • If you’re creating your own sponsored events, you can limit the number of events and cap your audience size.

  • If you’re sponsoring an external host’s event, you’ll need to communicate any audience cap to them directly. If you are giving them a discount code, we can enable the code to cover a cap amount, and they would pay an overage if their audience size is larger than what your code would allow them.

All event bookings and attendance can be tracked in the Reports section of your dashboard. *Here is more information on Reports.

What if only some of my events are sponsored?

You can remove the licensing fee for specific hosts by giving them a discount code. We can generate as many codes as you need. As the sponsor, you’re billed after the event based on actual usage:

  • In-person screenings: charged per event where the code was applied ($25 ea)

  • Virtual screenings: charged per ticket transaction where the code was applied ($0.99 ea).

How can I track discount code usage?

In the Reports section of your dashboard, you’ll see which promo codes were used, along with event details.

Can I cap the total free TVOD rentals or gifts?

  • If your film is free to watch for everyone via TVOD/Watch Now, you cannot set a cap. However, you can control the time period in which the film is available to be redeemed and watched for free in your dashboard.

  • If your film is free to watch only for those who have a discount code, then you can cap the number of discount codes available.

More information on hosting your own event as a Filmmaker can be found here.
