Licensed Upfront v. Paid Ticketed Screenings

Overview on difference between licensed and ticketed screenings

Written by Rish Aggarwal

You have the option to either sell tickets or make your event free for guests. (If the filmmaker has enabled both options. Sometimes only one option will be available.)

Selling Tickets

If you choose to sell tickets, you won't have to pay any fee – 45% of your ticket sales will go to the film team while 45% will go directly to you. This tends to be our hosts' preferred method for fundraising. You will be prompted to create a payout account if you choose this option. For virtual ticketed events, you as the host must also purchase a ticket.

Hosting A Free Event

If you choose to make your event free, you will have to pay a one-time licensing fee to acquire the film. In this case, 80% of the proceeds will go to the filmmakers. Licensing fees vary by film and are dependent on audience size.

How Much Is The Licensing Fee?

To find out the licensing fee for your screening simply click the 'Create a Screening' button on the film page and go through the process to see the applicable fee. Not to worry, you will be able to see your licensing fee without having to complete the booking or make any payments.

Additional Details

  • Both options will generate a Kinema event page automatically. If you do not need this event page, please change your screening to Private in your event management dashboard.

  • For virtual events, audience members will need register for a ticket. Registering for a ticket is the the same process for either option, the tickets will just either be free or paid.

  • You cannot pay a licensing fee and also sell tickets on the Kinema platform.
