Mezzanine Video - Technical Specifications

  • Delivered mezzanine file must contain a video track mixed with the audio track of the primary audio language

  • Content that is not natively 4x3 or 16x9 (e.g. 1.66, 1.85, 2.35 aspect ratios) should be delivered with mattes to meet 16x9 aspect ratio

  • No URLs or promotional materials should be burned into the video

The following mezzanine specifications are in order of preference.

  • Codec: Apple ProRes 422 HQ

  • Color: ITU-R BT.709

  • 16:9 Aspect Ratio

  • Resolution: 1920x1080, 3840x2160

  • Frame Rate: 23.976, 25, 29.97

Audio Specifications

  • Codec: Linear PCM

  • Sample Bit Depth: 16-bit, 24 bit

  • Sample Rate: 48 KHz

  • Channel Mapping

    • 5.1 Surround + Stereo: L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs, Lt, Rt

    • Stereo Only: Lt, Rt

  • MPEG-2 SPTS

Video Specifications

  • Codec: MPEG-2 Video

  • Color: ITU-R BT.709

  • 16:9 Aspect Ratio

  • Resolution: 1920x1080

  • Frame Rate: 23.976, 25, 29.97

  • Scan Type: Progressive

Audio Specifications

  • Codec: Linear PCM, MPEG-2 Audio, AC-3

  • Sample Bit Depth: 16-bit, 24 bit

  • Sample Rate: 48 KHz

  • Channel Mapping

    • 5.1 Surround + Stereo: L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs, Lt, Rt

    • Stereo Only: Lt, Rt

Closed Captioning / Subtitles Specifications

  • Only the SRT file format is accepted

  • Only UTF-8 encoding is accepted

  • Captions should use the same frame rate as the mezzanine video

  • Timecode should begin at hour zero, instead of at hour one
