What is an On-Demand Screening (Event VOD)?

Booking an "On-Demand Screening Event" enables your audience to watch a film online in a branded virtual cinema located at Kinema.com, and within a limited period. You can choose a viewing window between 1-30 days, and your audience will have 48 hours to finish the film once they start it. The virtual cinema will look something like this:

How to Create an On-demand Screening Event

Getting Started:

Go to the Kinema Film Gallery on our Home Page.

Select a film.

If On-demand is available, you will see the On-demand icon.

Click on Create Screening Event.

Step 1: Select On-demand to host an On-demand event.

Step 2: Select your licensing option:

  • Pay Licensing Fee: The filmmakers set their own rate card, and the fees are based on the type of screening host and the audience size. Paying a fee upfront makes the event free for your audience.

  • Sell Tickets: If you cannot or do not want to pay upfront, your other option is to sell tickets and split the box office with the film team. The split is typically 50/50 after Kinema's fees, which include credit card fees. However, sometimes the filmmakers offer a more generous share, and sometimes they have to offer less.

Step 3: Select Public or Private. Public screenings will be promoted on our website and private screenings will only be accessible with a link you send to your guests.

Step 4: Select what best describes you as an organization.

Step 5: Enter all your screening details.

  • Title of your Screening Event

    • The film title will be automatically filled in, but you can edit to rename the event

  • Organization

    • Enter the name of the organization or individual who is the host of the event.

  • Event Date and Start Time

  • Time Zone

    • We recommend choosing the one you are in.

  • Days available for Event On-Demand

  • Capacity

    • Enter the number of people you will be inviting and select update

    • If you are licensing the film so your event is free for your audience, your licensing fee is determined by your audience size.

  • Enter Ticket Price (if you're selling tickets)

Enter Payment Information

  • If you are paying the licensing fee, you will be prompted to enter in your payment information

  • If you are selling tickets you will be prompted to fill out your payout information (so we can send you the money you made from sales!)

Agree to the Licensing Terms

Click on Continue.

*Note: your License Fee will automatically calculate based on audience size.

  • If you are paying the licensing fee, you will be prompted to enter in your payment information

Step 6: Enter optional details for your Event Page. But you can also edit this later too!

Click Complete.

You’ll receive a confirmation email shortly, and the Kinema team will review the details of your screening for approval. Response time ranges from 20 minutes to 2 days. Until approved, your event management dashboard will say "pending."

Once approved, you’ll receive an email stating your event is approved and available to publish.

You can then customize your event page by editing your hosting Organization Name, adding a Logo, editing the copy on the Event Page, and editing the copy in the Virtual Cinema.

Click Save.

On the left, click the Event URL to see what your page will look like for your guests.

Once you are happy with your event page, click Publish.
