What is a Virtual Screening?

Booking a "Virtual" screening means your event will be online at your scheduled date and time within your own virtual cinema, located at Kinema.com. Your audience will watch the film together in a synchronized stream with the option to live text chat, and hear from you directly in a live video broadcast. It will look similar to this:

As part of your Virtual screening, your event will have a virtual cinema, with the option to brand the player and include information about your organization and any calls to action. To learn more, watch these overview videos:

Here's a video that will walk you through how to create a Virtual Screening:

You can also go through the following steps:

Visit the Kinema Film Gallery on our Home Page, or click on the booking link sent to you directly.

Search for a film by title or type.

Select a film.

Select your film and click Create Screening Event.

Step 1: Select Virtual to host a virtual event.

Step 2: Select your licensing option:

  • Pay Licensing Fee: The filmmakers set their own rate card, and the fees are based on the type of screening host and the audience size. Paying a fee upfront makes the event free for your audience.

  • Sell Tickets: If you cannot or do not want to pay upfront, your other option is to sell tickets and split the box office with the film team. The split is typically 50/50 after Kinema's fees, which include credit card fees. However, sometimes the filmmakers offer a more generous share, and sometimes they have to offer less.

Step 3: Select Public or Private. Public screenings will be promoted on our website and private screenings will only be accessible with a link you send to your guests.

Step 4: Select what best describes you as an organization.

Step 5: Enter all your screening details.

  • Title of your Screening Event

    • The film title will be automatically filled in, but you can edit it to rename your event

  • Organization

    • Enter the name of the organization or individual who hosts the event.

  • Event Date

  • Event Start Time

  • Time Zone

    • We recommend choosing the one you are in.

  • Capacity

    • Enter the number of people you will be inviting and select update

    • If you are licensing the film so your event is free for your audience, your licensing fee is determined by your audience size.

  • Enter Ticket Price (if you're selling tickets)

Enter Payment Information

  • If you are paying the licensing fee, you will be prompted to enter in your payment information.

  • If you are selling tickets you will be prompted to fill out your payout information (so we can send you the money you made from sales).

Agree to the Licensing Terms

Click on Continue

Step 6: This step is Optional and can be edited after your event is created.

  • About Your Event (for the event page)

  • Virtual Cinema Description, to be displayed within the Virtual Cinema

Click on Submit.

You’ll receive a confirmation email shortly, and the Kinema team will review the details of your screening for approval. Response times range from 20 minutes to 2 days. Until approved, your event management dashboard will say "pending."

Once approved, you’ll receive an email stating your event is approved and available to publish.

You can then customize your event page by editing your hosting Organization Name, adding a Logo, editing the copy on the Event Page and editing the copy in the Virtual Cinema.
