Hi! This is the Kinema Live Broadcasting Best Practices Guide, which will help you host the best event possible!
Set up a Live Broadcast for your event
Follow our How to Guide for setting up a Live Broadcast for your event.
Understanding the Live Broadcast Backstage
It's important you understand our technology so that the event runs smoothly.
Please watch this video to familiarize yourself
Live Broadcast Test Run
We recommend doing a test run 1 week before your event. You can do this by creating a demo event (select Virtual and Sell Tickets option so you won't have to pay anything). Then you can invite test speakers to join you Backstage (just as you did for your actual event)
Make sure to practice the user controls while Backstage. We also recommend having 1 person on your team attend the event via the Virtual Kinema vs being Backstage (remember when you're backstage you won't be able to see the film in the Virtual Kinema)
Day of Event
Log into the Backstage 15 minutes before you plan on going live (also tell your Speakers this)
Remind your Speakers that once live, the Audience will see and hear you
Remember that if you are Backstage while the film is playing, you won't be able to see the film. But it is playing for the audience
We don't recommend that you open the Virtual Kinema in another browser (there will be a time lag and potentially you'll hear an echo). We do recommend having someone on your team that is watching the film in the Virtual Kinema let you know when the film is over so you can start the Live Broadcast at the right time
Backstage Chat
When you are Backstage you will see 2 sets of chats: Backstage and Audience
The Backstage chat is just between you and the Speakers (this will not be displayed to the audience
The Audience chat is the chat feed from audience members (within the Virtual Kinema). This is where audience members can ask questions or add comments. It's useful to have one person backstage assigned to monitor this feed to incorporate into the QA
If possible, we recommend having a moderator backstage. This would be someone that is Backstage but not on video - this person could monitor the audience chat, feed speakers' questions, and manage time. *If you ask for a recording of the QA, note that anyone Backstage not on video will show up as a grey square in the recording.
Live Broadcasting Time Requirements
Live Broadcasts can not exceed 90 minutes
If you plan on doing a Live Broadcast Intro (before the film) AND a QA (after the film) we recommend logging out of the Live Broadcast after the Intro and then logging back in 15 minutes before you plan on going live for the after film QA
Live Broadcast recordings can not exceed 60 minutes. Any QAs longer than 60 minutes will time out
Monitoring the Audience Chat
If audience members have difficulties transitioning from the film to QA, instruct them to refresh their browser. Feel free to type this in the Audience chat
If audience members continue to have technical difficulties, please instruct them to reach out to hello@kinema.com. Please refrain from troubleshooting within the Audience chat as it takes away from the user experience and Kinema customer support is ready to help!
Good luck with your event!
Thank you! If you have other questions, email films@kinema.com.
